I have a small beach cabin about 710 sq ft. The walls are all tounge and groove cedar about an inch and a half thick. There is no air space between the outside walls or the vaulted ceiling. A few years ago I put up Rmax insulation board on the outside of the home over the aluminum siding that was applied directly to the cedar. I then put up T-111 floated on the outside walls on top of the insulation. I never did the roof because I didn't have the money to do both at the time. Now my roof is getting old and needing replacing. I have been told that I gould build up the roof with 2x4s put insulation inbetween the boards and put a new roof on top. I was wondering if I have any options for insulating my roof with metel roofing and what the process would be. Currently it has a composition roof right on top of the cedar. Thanks in advance for your input.

I forgot to ask, since it would be installed on a home near the Ocean I know that the salt air can be very harsh on metal. Would that have an affect on the roofs life and durability?
