I AM WONDERING HOW METAL ROOFING SYSTEMS DID DOWN IN PUNTA GORDA / PORT CHARLOTTE AREA VS. SHINGLE VS. TILE ?
I HAVE A PROPERTY IN THAT AREA AND AM TRYING TO DECIDE WHICH WAY TO GO FOR NEXT TIME.

I have heard much anecdotal information that the interlocking residential metal roof systems performed very well. However, particularly for structures right in Charley's path, that was a whopper of a storm.
There is a group called RICOWI which operates under the FEMA program for the purpose of investigating roof system performance after weather disasters. I am sure that group has been mobilized for investigating this storm and will be issuing a report later on.

I live in Punta Gorda, and I can tell you that modern metal roof systems did extremely well in the hurricane. The only house on our street with a metal roof is the only house with no roof damage. I lost nearly all my shingles and 10 sheets of plywood. Typical in PG and PC. 2 houses down, a 5 yr old home with metal roof had only damage to his pool cage. I'm replacing my roof with metal.
