I am looking for a corrogated style panel profile that come unpainted and will obtain a surface rust rather quickly. We do not want to treat the material if at all possible.

We prefer to use the word oxidise rather than Rust. even in that state the oxidation helps protect the steel. There is one type of steel that is commonly use in bridge girders etc called "Cortan" that is designed to oxidise only so far and stop. Anyways most companies are not set up to buy in non metalic coated steel and roll form it for this purpose and the price would be prohibited. You can buy a lighter weight metalic coating such as a G60 from some maufacturers and acid etch it. Good luck.

It is doubtful that you will readily find any material intended for roofing that is purposely meant to rust quickly as manufacturers are producing for the opposite effect. However, if you are tring to obtain this effect for some aestetic reason and are not concerned with the long life obtained with the galvanized or coated roofing systems, you might inquire to those vertical panel manufacturers listed as to the availabilty to special manufacture panels from cold-rolled steel. A caution would be that the "rusting" (sorry Al !) would probably not be uniform, would not stop rusting, and would result in a very short-lived panel. So unless your building a set for a movie, give this a lot of thought.

For aesthetic reasons I'm looking for the "rusted" or oxidised finish for a new barn. I understand corrugated panels roof and/or siding are now manufactured which will not rust through. Ideally, I'd like to find a manufacturer whose corrugations will match light panels. Can your help me find manufacturers, please?

There is no presently available roofing panels which are designed to rust. There are mill-finish and acrylic coated galvanized and galvalume products available which could be heavily sand-blasted or acid eteched or something to remove part of the galvanization or galvalume in order to begin the corrosion process. Ultimately, though, this will dramatically shorten the life expectancy of the roofing panel. There are various paint coatings available in brownish colors and even in two-tone colors which might come close to the look you desire but yet be far more durable. Additionally, you might find a standing seam manufacturer able to work in some fashion with a company that provides aggregate coatings for steel shingles in order to give an even more varied look to the steel panels. ATAS, I know, offers aggregate coatings on some of their products but not normally on their standing seam though maybe that could be looked into by them. Also, Classic Products offers an aluminum standing seam and they also have available a Kynar powder coat which can be mixed to have a sort of rusty look. As for matching the roofing to transluscent panels, I would do it the other way around -- find a roof panel you like and then find transluscent panels that can be used with it or install curbed skylights. The producer of corten steel has told me that they are not recommending or supporting its use for roofing applications. Todd Miller
