I live in northeast Ohio and have a large 1854 farmhouse that needs a new roof. A metal roof would solve the "need" problem, as well as be in keeping with a 19th century farmhouse. Historically speaking, what style of roofing do you think would be most "authentic?"

I believe that, had your home had a metal roof installed when it was built, it would have probably been a hand-formed raised seam panel. That look can be achieved today by doing the same thing -- a hand-formed standing seam, or by installing a manufactured thin seam standing seam system.
