Ok I have spent the last hour and a half looking through and reading various things on metal roofing. I am installing the classic rib panel that is sold by metal roofing wholesalers in roughly 2 weeks. I am installing it on a home built in 1969 and over the top of an existing layer of shingles. I am putting on 30# tar paper. Now my question is I do not have soffit vents, I do not have gable vents. I do have 4 roof vents on top of the house which I intended on reusing. I decided not to purchase the profile vent and instead went with the closures. Now all this reading has got me worried about the venting of my house. The house has a 4 12 pitch and attic. I have contracted siding to be done in roughly the same time period as well. (I added that because of the possibility of soffit vents being put in before siding installed) What should I do considering the venting of my house. Now I am concerned that I won;t even be able to use the existing caps with the metal roof and will have to purchase something locally. Thanks in advance for your response. Sorry for not organizing the post better.

I would certainly add soffit vents to get some intake. You will need to make sure they are not blocked by insulation and you may want to put bafflefs in the attic to help keep the soffit vents functioning.
Ridge vent provides a great method of exhausting. However, using a good number of standard roof vents near the peak can help, too.
Keep in mind that metal roofing does not "worsen" the moisture situation. However, tightening up your house by adding siding may make it harder for moisture inside the house to get out and could create some problems with excessive moisture in the attic.
I am assuming here that you have a solid deck on your roof now and that you intend to keep it in place.

I do not intend on doing anything with the decking. There is a possibility that I may go ahead and strip the old roof off, but my plan has been to just overlay.
So you recommend the soffit vents over adding gable vents? How do I go about adding soffit vents? Is it just a matter of cutting vents in the soffit and moving the blown in insulation away from the vents?
The baffles you are talking about where can I get a look at them?
Thanks again for your time.

The baffles are foam and should be available from any quality lumber yard or home center. They just help direct the air and make sure that you do not get any further insulation blocking the vents.
Going over the old roof should be okay. Make sure you adhere to the installation instructions that come with the new roof.
Soffit and ridge vent combination provide the best possible way of keeping the back side of the roof deck as cool as possible. That is what you are trying to accomplish.
