I have a galvalume 5V roof and a painting contractor sprayed stain onto my cedar siding and all over the metal roof. What is the best recommendation on removing it without harming the roof panels?

I am assuming that the roof is unpainted (mill finish) galvalume.
Well, you need to use an appropriate solvent to remove the stain. I'd find as mild of a solvent as possible to do the trick and then try cleaning a small test area on the roof (or perhaps some scrap) and make sure it isn't causing visible damage. Rinse with light detergent and water after cleaning.
I'd sure leave your painter on the hook for cleaning the roof and being responsible for any damage it might cause.
