What are the key 'metal specific' questions to ask your roof contractor when receiving estimates? We will be replacing an old standing seam metal roof. Are things like guage, finish, manufacturer, metal type etc. etc. important?

Yes, you want to know as much as you can about the product they're installing. In particular, you must confirm that the product is suitable for installation on your house. Do not be afraid to specify what product you want or to contact the manufacturer of the product they wnat to use. However, you also need to know how long they have been in business, whether they intend to stay in business, how many metal roofs of the type they're installing for you have they installed in the past, do they have proper insurance and licensing, who will install your roof and how experienced are they. Additionally, get references of past jobs, go look at them, and talk to past customers. Also, verify the warranty you will receive on the roofing materials and the workmanship warranty you will receive from the contractor.
