I own a house built in 1896. It has a metal roof. I don't know how old it is, but the paint is peeling and it is rusting in places.
The roof material does look quite old. I have to decide whether to paint it or replace it.
I'm trying to figure out how old this roof could be and if it's in good shape to keep. If we paint it, what recommendations do you have?
Photos in attached file (I kept getting errors when trying to post photos)

There were a lot of variants of that type of press-formed metal panel made in the US from the late 1800s through about 1920. It would not surprise me if this is original to the home. If you needed repair parts, I do not think you will find anyone making your exact panel any longer. You certainly could try to clean the rust spots, apply a primer and a topcoat and probably get several more years out of the roof.
