Pilot holes for 24 gauge snaplock?

I'm trying to DIY my metal roof and I can't find any installation instructions when it comes to installing the rake trim I can't get a 1 inch pancake wood screw through the z closure or the 24 gauge metal panel I assume I need to make pilot holes 4 inch oc (florida home) any advice would be appreciated.
