Hello, my name is Cory. I live in northern Pennsylvania. I am currently having a problem with my neighbors black Metal Roof. I live in an upstairs apartment in a 2 story house. My neighbor lives in a 1 story house, which sits about 10 feet below mine, as we live on an incline. Her house house sits east of mine geographically, so its the side of the house that gets the most sunlight during the day.
She installed a high gloss black metal Roof A few years ago and it has become a nuisance. It shines perfectly through all 5 windows in my apartment, so bad that it's blinding to look out the windows. On a sunny day it will actually heat my apartment about 7 degrees. On hot days it will eat the varnish off of my window frames to the point that it has turned the wood snow white. I have to apply varnish every so often. I'm actually afraid they might catch fire. I've tried to reason with her but no no avail. There has to be something I can do about this???? I mean we're talking borderline unsafe here. I literally cannot look out any of these windows without getting blinded. It's like watching someone weld without a mask on. Plus the fact that it's actually doing damage to my home.

I have never heard of a situation like this but of course everything depends on the exact situation. Have you considered solar window tint on your windows? I do not know of anything specifically that could be done to the neighbor's roof though metal roofs will oxidize some and also develop some dirt / grime that will change things some over time.
