I live in a development with a "serious" homeowners association, meaning as draconian as they get. I would like to replace my current asphalt roof with a metal roof, but I need to know if the stamped metal shingle looks exactly like a standard shingle. So, how accurately does a metal "asphalt" shingle mimic a true asphalt shingle? Also, is there anything that is part of the installation that would make the roof look any different than a standard shingled roof such as where the panels are joined?

There are many stone-coated steel roofs that have that sort of look. Check out our organization's member manufacturers. These companies should be willing to send you samples. Ultimately, I suspect the powers that be will want to see lots of samples and photos. The ability, though, to have a long-term roof with energy efficiency and other benefits is something that ultimately adds home value and protection.
