My roof is currently asphalt shingle and roofing company wants to install a 26 gage roof over the top with a barrier. I want to put solar panels on top of that and I am in an area for hurricanes. Is that an appropriate design 26 gage for the area and the addition of solar panels?
Thanks Jack. This does not sound unusual but my suggestion would be to dig further with the specific roofing manufacturer as well as the manufacturer of your solar attachments and the panels themselves. Now, that is in regards to solar. Many people do not suggest standing seam over existing shingles as the uneven surface may force ripples into the panels. I am also not sure what building codes require in your specific area. I also don't know if your roof is to be standing seam or an exposed fastener corrugated product.
Thank you, I called the company to confirm the standing seam or an exposed fastener corrugated product. I know the research I have done for the solar panels they recommend the standing seam. Again, thank you very much on you input it helps tremendously.
