Metal roof substrates

I'm planning an addition to my cabin. Because the cost of lumber is too high, I'm planning steel tubular framing in an effort to minimize the use of wood. Going with a metal roof, what is required for sheathing? 1/2" plywood with peel and stick? I recently built a metal storage building with no sheathing (does not leak). I'd appreciate recommendations for metal roofing (and underlayments), keeping in mind plywood is about $50 per sheet. Thanks

On smaller structures including all residences, I strongly encourage solid decking such as nominal 1/2" decking. Exposing the back side of the metal to the attic is an invitation to condensation. Other things such as insulation, vapor barriers, and ventilation can also help prevent inside moisture from reaching the metal roof but usually are not enough on their own. As far as underlayment, most of the industry uses premium synthetics and then ice and watershield by code. Ice and watershield on the entire roof seals the house up like a terrarium and should not be done except in cases of excellent ventilation or a fully foamed (closed cell) attic. Our industry has a free webinar tomorrow on condensation that may interest you. 7-28-21. https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_jpdjyqrnRXeBg52ihI1OOQ?_hsenc=p2ANqtz--Tnr5xWPLuQpGvze0Uf5fpVhiN0FpXgDsJoQkK9VXu1e9IulnslSrornHLl4RWR171BC1l&utm_campaign=METALCON%20Live!&utm_content=173413132&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&hss_channel=tw-544276870
