Old uneven purlins

Return to Forum

If old uneven purlins were not replaced and OSB installed over the old purlins, would this result in a poorly installed roof? There is clear unevenness in the osb and fur strips, will this eventually transfer to the metal being installed over them?

Smooth standing seam roofing can be particularly prone to ripples (oilcanning) when installed over an uneven surface. Striated standing seam, various corrugated panels, and metal shingles do not necessarily "oilcan" but they will follow the contour of the roof deck. It's hard to hide an uneven roof deck.
