I am building a large barn, 72'x30', and planning to strap the trusses that I am using for the rafter system. Is is acceptable practice to install standing seam roofing directly onto the strapping? Plywood costs have gone crazy and I hope to save the additional cost of the plywood sheeting. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Some standing seam panels are suitable for this type of installation. Please use the Manufacturers section of this website to link to manufacturers of Vertical Seam products and then make inquiries with them as to which of their products are "structural," meaning they can be installed over battens/purlins.
Also, there are stone-coated steel products in shake and tile profiles which can be installed this way as well.
