We just had a standing seam roof installed and we are very concerned with the installation of it. When you have a standing seam roof installed should there be caulking left on the roof when the contractors are finished? Also when they originally installed the ridgecap they screw in these very long screws which went into each standing seam on every panel. They have since removed this screws and now have caulked all the little holes in the ridgecap and in every standing seam. Is this the proper way to do and also how long does this caulking last? Could this not cause my roof to leak? We chose the standing seam because of the closed fastener system. With this holes left from the screws it doesnt seem to be a closed fastener system anymore. Any comments would be appreciated.

It is not unusual to have some exposed sealant though normally its purpose is for aesthetics and also to act as an extra seal against the weather, not the primary seal.
Obviously, I do not know what exactly has happened with your ridge or why they did what they did. However, it does sound mighty peculiar.
If you wish, please email me photos and I will provide further comment.
