Hi, I just had a new standing seam roof installed. The contractor left no overhang at all stating that overhang would just allow the wind to catch the metal. Is this acceptable or should there be some over hang? Also he did not cover the house in felt stating it was not neccessary. What are the possible consequenses of this?

The IBC/IRC building code call for an underlayment which acts as a condensation trap and a secondary membrane for severe weather conditions unless the product has been tested and approved and included in a product approval report such as ICBO-ES, SBCCI, ICC etc. I would ask the contractor to produce such a report or check with the manufacturer. As to the overhang, the code again calls for a drip edge to be applied at the eaves such as the metal starter strip used with asphalt shingles. This is to stop water fromrunning back up under the sheets. If he has installed one here and sealed it with butyl tape it is acceptable. Again contact the manufacturer of the product and ask for their details and or product aproval report.
