Insects in air gap

Return to Forum

I am going to put an exposed fastener metal roof on my shop.
I intend to do this over cross-battens.
I have seen some suggestions that this should be detailed to include insect screening similar to a rainscreen application under siding.
However, I am wondering if it really makes sense to include this detail. The panels must get extraordinarily hot in the summer and I imagine this would be a very hostile environment for insects (such as wasps).
I would appreciate any comments on this.

You'd be surprised. Better to be safe than sorry in my estimation and the last thing you want is something getting up there and dying too.
