Hello,
My wife and I are building a home in SW Florida and are seriously considering a steel roof. I was wondering if you could provide some insight and things to consider when choosing the color?
We were originally going to go w/ a brown tile roof. However, we will be on a golf course and I’m concerned that I will have to continually replace tiles from errant golf balls.
Our builder recommends colors that are as close to white as possible for energy efficiency purposes. However, we are concerned that white (or close to white) will show too much dirt.
Would a darker color steel roof fade over time in the Florida sun. From an energy efficiency stand point would it be smarter to go w/ a light color? Would a more natural metal color be a smarter option?
Thanks in advance!

Kirk,
How close to the ocean are you? You might need to run Aluminum in this case.
With regards to color, the lighter colors will have a bit better performance with regards to reflectivity, but metal is such are great performer on that front that the spread between lighter and darker is maybe not as great as you think.
Once you decide on a metal supplier, they will have all the data on emissivity and reflectivity on their metals.
On the dirt front, I wouldn't worry about that too much. Metal can easily be washed and refreshed as a result.
