The Pavilion at our community has a metal roof. It is Blue in color The roof is 15 years old. Two years ago this June we had the roof repaited because it was peeling. The paint lasted less than one year. Why would it peel, the painting contractor says the roof is failing is that true? How long should a repainted metal roof last? Please help me!

There are several things which can lead to paint system failure and it would take some pretty sophisticated analysis to tell you what has happened with this roof.
You might contact the roofing manufacturer and have them do an analysis but, since repainting has already been done, it might be tough.
If the root cause is poor adhesion (which could be for several reasons) between the original paint and the metal, you will never stop this roof from peeling unless it is cleaned entirely down to bare metal before it is repainted. At that point, it would need a primer and a top coat.
Wish I could be more encouraging and helpful.

Thanks for the response. I understand when the roof was repainted the area was supposed to have been cleaned and primed. There are several area's where the paint is peeling, Near the gutter line and on the Southern exposure. This roof was also painted in June during a very Hot summer. Could temprature of metal at the time of the application be the cause. Also the product was a Duron Paint. I do not know the exact paint type but am seeking that info as well I think the roof was painted during days with temp in excess of 95 degrees. Your comments have been helpful.

Todd has it correct. In fact the issue may be a combination of the wrong preparation, wrong paint and the wrong application. Difficult to tell. The issue is that a properly specified pre peinted roof should come with a 25-30 yr manufacturers warranty. Too often a contractor gets a supply price on a Blue roof however Blue is not always Blue. There are PVDF's at full or part strength and then down the line. It is quite a challenge and why the MCA has now developed a coating certification program.

Ok so It could be paint, application or cheap materials but how do I correct the problem now. Is there a paint that should be spec'd for this job. It sound as if the contractor repainting fail to do the proper application. Is stripping the entire roof, sanding, priming and repainting the options we should be seeking or do I need to have a metal roof professional inspect the roof in its current condition for possible defects, then replace those sections?

I really hate to say this but I have a hunch that this roof may not be worth the time which would have to go into stripping it and repainting it.
If you do try to strip it and repaint it, use a quality primer followed by a quality top coat and allow the primer to dry before proceeding. Sherwin Williams has a good metal primer called Pro Cryl and I am sure they have an appropriate top coat for it as well.
