You say that a solid sheathing under a metal roof will deaden sound. What sheathing names would apply here? Would a polyiso product such as Atlas Board work here? Thank you for your help.

By solid sheathing, we are referring to decking such as plywood or OSB, typically minimum 1/2" thick. Some metal roof systems require this for installation and some do not. Also, some metal roof systems can be installed with additional insulation.

I am trying to build a home on my lakefront lot inOrlando Florida. The home I have designed is all steel stud construction, interior, exterior, trusses and joists, NO WOOD!. Since termites are a problem and fire is a concern is there any type of sheeting I can use? Could the metal roofing be installed directly on the steel trusses and then sprayed with a rubberized undercoating or pickup truck bedliner material to deaden the sound on the underside of the roof?

There are many types of residential metal roofs, both vertical seam and shake/tile profiles which can be installed over purlins. Generally, extra sound deadening would be done with extra insulation on top of the ceilings. Another option would be a metal roof deck followed by metal roofing.
