Hail Classification

Is it possible to determine the hail resistance class of a roof assembly without testing? Perhaps by comparison to similar assemblies and or formulae with thickness and yield strength as inputs?

Thanks.

The only way of course to obtain the classification under UL 2218 is to have the product tested and the results submitted to UL. The test protocol is available online and you could rig up the test and do it yourself if you wish but UL will not give you approval based upon your own testing. All this said, I personally have never seen a metal product that did not meet the Class IV (most strenuous level) criteria of UL 2218.
