TOPIC: I Have An Existing Metal Roof and Have A Question

Shoe prints on galvalume

I recently had an unpainted galvalume standing seam roof installed on my house. Upon completion of the job there was lots of discoloration from where the workers were walking around but I was assured that after a couple storms it would wash off. Well 3 months later they are still there. I've tried using a power washer and dawn dish soap to no avail. Any ideas how to clean this off? This is on a majority of the panels. Also several panels were found with pencil marks on them.

Have you checked with the manufacturer / supplier of the metal and/or the metal panels for their advice? Todd Miller

I am renovating a 95 year old house and the standing seam installer did a good job and did not scratch the roof. I washed it after he was done with dish soap and it looked good. However my carpenter finished the last two bottom pieces of cement siding and there are scratches that look like smudges where he worked on the siding. It is a Drexel Metal roof. Will a touch up pen work? I have extra panels that I experimented on with mineral spirits to clean it and also tried denatured alcohol to see if it was dirt. I do not have a touch up pen but I am ordering a couple. Would rubbing compound work? The color is traditional b lack which looks like flat black. Thanks !

Dean, I would not use anything more abrasive than the kitchen cleaner SoftScrub. However, really, I'd suggest checking with Drexel and following their instruction. They will probably ask for some photos.
