rock chimney and warranty

Is it necessary to remove the rocks around a chimney when installing a metal roof? What is the typical warranty for a metal roof? It seems like 10 years is standard, but I have concern about water leaks with screw type installation.

Thank you. If you're referring to the actual chimney stones or other masonry, no it would not normally be removed but some sort of flashing will be installed. It all depends upon the exact details of your chimney. When you purchase a metal roof, you should receive a warranty from the manufacturer covering the product and a warranty from the contractor covering the installation workmanship. Product warranties range from 20 years to lifetime and I have seen workmanship warranties from two years to lifetime. There are many metal roof options with concealed fasteners, if exposed fasteners are a concern to you.

+1 to Todd's feedback. Any chance you could post a picture of the chimney?

Unfortunately, I don't have any close up pictures at this time.
