Drip edge

I am going to install 29ga metal roof on my work shop directly over asphalt shingles with synthetic felt. My question do I remove the old eave drip edge or can new drip edge be installed over the old - the old looks good but is 25 yrs old. The gable trim should cove the old drip edge.

Normally the old drip edge would be removed. However, if you can install the new one over it without jeopardizing the attachment and security of the new one, it should be okay, assuming you do not have contact between dissimilar metals. The security of the eave starter / drip does have a lot to do with the wind resistance of the entire roof system. Todd Miller
