TOPIC: Roofing over existing roof

re-roof tar and gravel with snap lock

what is the best way to re-roof a tar and gravel roof with 12" snap lock this roof has a 2/12 pitch if metal can be applied.what gauge? should original surface be removed?etc. thank you!

Appreciate that there are hail, fire, structural and ventilation issues that come into play here. As well one does not want the steel to lay on the old roof and telegraph through. Also the roof configuration with upper and lower roofs, valleys and snow loads. The best advice is to choose a product and manufacturer and contact them. The building codes have certain restrictions on roofing over tar and gravel and most manufacturers have had their product reviewed for this type of application and carry a product approval report.
