Round Roof for Old Dairy Barn Renovation?

Return to Product Selection

Return to Forum

I have a nice old Dutch bell shape roof on a dairy barn with original cedar shakes that need to be replaced. I would like to get a metal roof but am having difficulty finding contractors and good examples of similar roofs. My barn is a pretty typical early 1940's Dutch barn with a small flair on the bottom and very vertical mid section making the loft very tall. My plan is to shore up the roof and convert the barn into a nice workshop, but I need a solid roof to get the building stabilized. The local lumber yard is telling me that I need to run the metal horizontally and to me that just sounds wrong. I am looking for a long lasting quality solution. The current roof has made it some 80 years and I would want the replacement to have the same type of life and look nicely done. So if anyone could point me to products or contractors that could get me on the path I'd sure like to get this rolling this year. Thank you,
Kevin BLUHM

Thanks for your post. A vertical seam panel would require curved panels which are going to be tough to come by and probably costly. I have worked with a few roofs similar to yours where metal shingles were installed. Because they are run horizontally, they can handle the curve. See the attached photo. Todd Miller

Gorgeous Todd. I think the shingles look better in this application as well. Eric Novotny

That is crazy cool look Dick. Are they doing that onsite or at the factory? Eric Novotny
