weatherproofing hip cap

I need to caulk the 45 degree junctions on my low pitch metal roof (1.25:12) before I screw down the hip cap. Can foam sealants be used to close off PBR panel rib openings (the ribs are big 1.25" height)? I read foam sealant take on water like a sponge I was going to try spray foam as a mechanical seal and then butyl tape over top of the foam to add a water seal. Do you think this is the best way to weatherproof the hip sections?

I would use a quality butyl sealant. However, are you using this panel at a pitch that is lower than required by its manufacturer?

Thanks Todd. The manufacturer rates these panels down to a 1:12 pitch.

Fantastic. I am glad to hear that.
