Install steel directly to deck or on batten strips

I'm installing a 29 gauge steel roof on my house- new construction with a solid 1" deck, and well vented attic. Are batten strips necessary or can I install the steel directly on the underlayment? Thanks

Directly to the deck is preferred with a 29 gauge product. Since you are in upstate NY make sure you are using a high temperature peel and stick along the eave up 4' above the exterior wall; as well as a good quality underlayment the rest of the surface area.
