My husband and I are interested in putting on a metal shingle slate or shake roof. We live next to a preserve with many pine and cypress trees. It is necessary for us to get on the roof 3-4 times a year to clean gutters and remove needles. Since we have to hire someone to do this and they are not necessarily careful where they walk, which roofing material would you recommend and is this a problem. We are in a deed restricted community and these are two of the metal roofs that are allowed that we are interested in.

The manufacturer(s) of the product(s) you are considering need to be contacted concerning this. Each will have their own walking instructions. In some cases, walkboards or the like can be placed on top of the roofing for extra walkability. Some products are also available with optional foam backers or inserts for greater walkability.
