DuPont Teijin Films developed a 1 mil white Mylar(R) polyester that is UV stabilized, opaque, and has a thermal bonding adhesive on one surface for thermal laminating directly to metal coil. The film is also available in clear film. We would like to survey some metal roofing laminators/coaters to see if such a product would be of interest to them. Can you provide any leads or advice? Thanks.

Dupont had a joint venture arrangement with National Steel in developing a metal shingle with Teflon coating. This is a wonderful concept except one of the most expensive coatings developed. National Steel went bankrupt and is now owned by US Steel. The problem with the film is that it needs to be laminated and typically this is done at a coil coater and the process is more expensive than the equal paint system. Having said that I suggest you contact US Steel, however I would be interested in talking to you directly on the challenges and benefits.
