Last post did not take............. I am having mucho problems witha metal roof.......it is a profile patern with external fastners @ 4/12 pitch about 12 years old....had oem white paint problem 1 is how can I find out who made the roof Panel? {previous owner didn.t know}, It is rusting pretty severly and 100"% of the paint is chalked up,and 20% is gone.......I would indeed like to identify the manufacturer and "talk" with them as to the lack of durability. Problem 2 are leaks........I checked -replaced all the defective screws { about 5,000} and it still leaks, any tricks on finding,stopping...leaks. I gotta tell you......after owning a metal roof I doubt seriously if I ever build something with a metal roof..I had expected something with minimal maintenance with extended life cycle.......not.. Thanks, Don Scott

I am sory to hear of your problems. Quite frankly, it is my opinion that, too often, metal roofs which were not intended for residential applications are being used residentially and then problems like this result. Chances are that there is no way to identify the manufacturer of the roofing at this point. There are lots and lots of companies of all sizes producing through-fastened roofing like yours. If you cannot track down the original installer, you probably cannot find the roofing manufacturer. I suggest, though, hooking up with a well-experienced metal roofing expert in your area to inspect your roof and render an opinion as to whether it can be repaired. Most of the MRA manufacturer members should be able to help you locate such an expert. A word of advice to everyone out there -- if you're going to invest in a metal roof, choose a product which is designed for residential use. Go out and look at past jobs and talk to past customers before proceeding. The MRA member manufacturers can help you with this.

I have a insulated pole barn garage 30'x40' with 2 garage doors.I live in NJ so receive usually light to moderate snowfall but last year we had some bigger storms that left 1 to 2 ft of snow on roof. After cleaning off the cement pad in front of the 2 doors we were not happy to have the snow from the roof fall & compact itself on the pad. I've seen something attached to other roofs in NJ & PA that I think is to stop that problem. Can you advise if the L-shaped looking pieces are effective & what about the weight it holds on the roof? Also how are they attached?

There are a wide variety of snowguards and snowfences available which can help to break up the snow into smaller chunks as it falls. A Google search for "snowguards" will yield many options. However, I would strongly suggest you go back to the manufacturer of your roofing and ask them for suggestions and installation instructions. I would not wnat to see you do anything which might inadvertantly damage the roofing. Todd Miller
