Solar panel installation on standing seam metal roof

Return to I Have An Existing Metal Roof and Have A Question

I have a contract with Solar City to install a solar system on my bard roof. The barn was built in 2007 with engineered roof trusses according to Ibc specs. The roof is standing vertical metal type. Ten days after doing a visual inspection they have told me they cannot install solar panels on my barn roof without damaging the metal roofing. This is probably the most common metal roofing type installed today and I know I have seen solar panels mounted on this type of roof before. How come they can't do it?

In order to apply solar panels on that type of roofing, they'd probably have to put a lot of holes through the metal roof panels. They perhaps do not want to do that. I do though think there is an S5! clamp that would work on your roof to mount the solar panels without penetrations in the roof. Todd Miller

The S5! website is http://www.s-5.com/home/index.cfm If you send them a close up photo showing the overlap seam on your roof panels, they should be able to identify which clip you need. Todd Miller
