I am planning to build a small pole barn for horses in north east Georgia. One section will have a 24' x 24' footprint with a single ridge. I would like the slope to be 10/12. I will use steel roofing over purlins. No insulation. The poles are spaced at 12' intervals. Can I safely plan to have rafters spaced at 12' intervals with 2x6 purlins set in joist hangers? Is there some other hardware more appropriate? The purlins would be set at 2' intervals. Thanks for the advice.

For the wood framing you need to check with the local code. I suspect that the purlins are fine for dead load but not for the new wind codes. As to the metal roofing, I am assuming that you are intending to put on a through fastened vertical rib panel. Choose a supplier and then contact the manufacturer to confirm that the profile and gage are acceptable in this installation.
