I have a problem with ice dams on my north facing roof. I need to replace the roof and will improve the ventilation in the process. I am considering a metal roof. Do metal systems eliminate the possibility of ice dams?

I once wrote on this subject. You may wish to read it here: http://www.asktoddmiller.com/misc/snow-ice-dams-and-metal-roofing/ Also, one thing I don't cover in that article is the role that air leaks from the living space into the attic can play in ice dams. Also, here is a link to my podcast on this subject: http://www.asktoddmiller.com/roofing-help-podcasts/ice-dams/
