I have been told that I cannot get a warranty for either standing seam or corrugated metal roofing on my house because of the valleys between steep pitches. I was told that the snow coming down the valley would deform the standing seam causing leaks or for corrugated roofing the snow would be forced back up under the open ends of the corrugations. I am located in Raymond, Maine about 30 miles NNW of Portland. Since I have alraeady installed standing seam steel roofing on my new garage, I would like to have the same appearance on the house as well as having the benefits of metal roofing. Is there any way of accomplishing this, short of installing ice and water shiled over the entire 40 square of this roof?

I have never heard of this before. Who told you this -- the roofing manufacturer, the installing contractor, or a nosy busybody? Todd Miller

My contractor said that this is what he was told by the manufacturer and two suppliers. I am going to e-mail the manufacturer directly to see if I can get a response from them.

I agree with Todd and feel you are on the right track. There is a possibility that the contractor is talking about an ag panel not meant for residential roofing. As well watch that you do not have unequal pitches forming the valley which can cause this. If the attic ventilation is proper, then there should be minimal heat loss and the resulting ice damming which causes problems when it releases.
