In most cases, attic ventilation is part of a healthy home. Did the attic have previous ventilation? Todd Miller

Soffit and Ridge venting are one ventilation strategy but there are others. Does the home have gable vents and/or powered attic ventilators? Eric Novotny

This is my first time using this site and not sure I'm asking the question on the right page. I had a metal roof installed over asphalt shingles about 6 weeks ago. I just recently discovered that the roofer knocked in the roof vents that were there and laid the “bubble like” insulation and then metal roof over the wholes. My roofer is not responding to my calls or e-mails. I have two vents at the peak of my 90 year old house in the attic. I have no overhangs for soffit vents there. There is a two-story addition on the back of the house that has no attic access that I have found. There had been two roof vents on that addition. That is the area I am most concerned about. My detached garage also had two roof vents. That’s where I discovered the problem when I went up to that attic for supplies, I noticed the vents laying on the plywood. However, that floor is about 10” away from the walls so probably gets enough ventilation through the garage. What additional ventilation do you suggest? Please be specific since I am a single woman and will have to research the options myself. I could post a picture if need be. Thank you. Thank you.

Thanks Sandy. A couple of pictures of the roof would be helpful. You can post here or email me direct at [email protected] Did they mention anything about using a vented ridge by chance? Todd Miller

Sandy, Pictures of the interior (attic side) and exterior will help. Does the addition on the rear have soffits? Where is the home located? The lack of ventilation in the garage (unconditioned space) is less troubling but potentially still improper. Eric Novotny
