Have an existing steel barrel roof on our main church builing that has not been treated since the building was constructed 20 years ago. Need a prep/paint recommendation so we can protect/preserve it.

Interesting. Are you sure that is some form of steel and not zinc or even copper? Todd Miller

Best I can tell from the faded architectural drawings is it is a "perma-loc" roof. Appears that it is steel, not zinc. image of spec attached

You certainly could clean it by power washing with water, TSP, and detergent ... then apply a primer followed by a top coat. You could use a quality paint system or you could get air-dry Kynar (Kynar Aquatec) However, I am really wondering whether anything is necessary. Todd Miller

+1 to all of Todd's advice. First thing to do would be to confirm the base material. What an interesting construction and roof shape. The roof (from the one picture) does not appear to need painting as much as a good cleaning. Eric Novotny
