1x4 furring over rolled roofing

I want to install a metal roof on a carport/shed over the existing rolled roofing. I will put down new under layment. Can I run the 1x4 furring strips horizontal the length of the roof? The roof trusses are such that if I run the furring with the pitch of the roof, I can't nail to the trusses. Thanks, Loren

Make sure that the metal roofing you're installing can be installed over purlins. Then check the load requirements which will indicate the required purlin spacing. The purlins need to be run horizontal. Todd Miller
