TOPIC: I Have An Existing Metal Roof and Have A Question

Paint Peel

Return to I Have An Existing Metal Roof and Have A Question

I have a metal shingle roof. Paint is peeling severely on south and west sides of house and now has started to peel on north and east also. I have contacted the manufacturer in Canada; after two years of sending registered letters, they finally responded and said they had relocated their business from Western Canada to Eastern Canada and they would "get back to me" with a solution. That was 5 years ago, and I can no longer even find the company. The installer went out of business, too. So, what can I do to correct my situation? I cannot get on the roof myself, but am willing to hire the work done. However, I can't find anyone who has ever done a job like this before. With the individual shingles that interlock, it is not good to walk on the roof as the interlocking seams can "unlock" so I want someone who knows how to work on a surface like this. About 60% of the paint is gone from the South and West sides, and the peeling has just begun on the North and East. I need help!

Unfortunately, repainting a peeled surface usually is not advisable as it will probably just peel again. If you send me a photo of the roof I may be able to help you contact a responsible party. I am sorry about this -- it is very unusual. My email is [email protected] Todd Miller

Hi, I am looking at buying a home in the northeast with this same issue. Were you able to solve this? Jeff

Brian, many of the roofs are galvanized steel or galvalume steel. However, painted metal roofing may also be aluminum. If you email me with photos, I will try to help in some fashions. All Best. Todd Miller [email protected] Todd Miller
