Snow Stop Installation

Is there an ideal distance from the gutter to install continuous snow stops on a 4/12 pitch, standing seam roof? I've installed them at 24" but have recently been advised to install them much closer, about 6". Thanks. Peter

A good rule of thumb is place them just above the interior of the outside wall. The thought is that the heat loss from the interior space will melt the frost and snow above sooner than the area over the soffit.
