Coastal Installation

Return to Forum

We are currently doing a development on the Freeport waterfront in Montego Bay, Jamaica. A roofing supplier has sold us 26 ga Galvalume standing seam panels for the project. When we enquired about a warranty, we were told that there is none for coastal applications. Another supplier says that .40" aluminum standing seam panels will come with a warranty, and is the recommended product for coastal applications. What should we do?

In coastal environments it is recommended to only use aluminum. .040 is recommended in high wind zone areas with the proper clip spacing and attachments. You also need to pay attention to the flashing design. All flashings need to be hemmed and cleated. Dick Bus
