I'm building a house in the Triangle area of NC. We are thinking of using metal roofs and/or siding. Specifically, copper siding and maybe copper roofing. The siding would only be on the gable ends of the house but that still maybe too much copper if its on the roof as well. I'm looking for links to suppliers of copper roofing and siding. Can you help me with these links? I have tried this website and its not clear which companies have copper materials. Thanks, Dan

I think that the following Metal Roofing Alliance manufacturers produce copper products: www.atas.com www.duraloc.com www.classicroof.com www.custombiltmetals.com www.metalworksroof.com www.englertinc.com www.pac-clad.com There may be others as well. Also, there are steel and aluminum products available with coatings to look like copper. The benefits include lower cost, similar durability, and no run-off to deal with. The Copper Development Association also has some links to manufacturers. Their site is www.copper.org

Is there a spray or applied solution that will turn copper (new) to the characteristic green soon after installation, and will not harm other components of a building ie, masonry or wood trim, or glass below? If so what, where to obtain and how to apply? Thanks

I'm looking for the same thing. A gutter fabricator said that muratic acid was used--but that sounds pretty dangerous for the paint, wood, etc.

The green everyone wants is really oxidation which in turn protects the copper. We use mild solutions of muratic acid to etch the surface of steel clean so that it oxidises faster so it may work on copper as well. Try the copper association. There are a number of companies offering painted steel that looks like aged copper, so you may want to look into this.
