Plywood sheathing clips?

Saw them at Home Depot and also last night while walking through some new construction. What do they do and how many are typically placed on each sheet of sheathing? The ones I saw looked to be placed at about 24" on center.

I believe the clips you're referring to are used as spacers. When plywood decking is installed, there should be a 1/8" gap between the sheets. These clips create that gap. Todd Miller
