old ridge vent opening

How do you keep bats and lady bugs out of your attic when you leave the old ridge vent opening open, then installing metal over the old roof. The cap lets in daylight when viewed from the attic:

The ridge vent should include either a filter or some sort of mesh or pierced holes to help prevent such things from getting in. Todd Miller
