TOPIC: I Have An Existing Metal Roof and Have A Question

"Soft" metal roofs

Return to I Have An Existing Metal Roof and Have A Question

I wanted to install solar panels on my metal roof to heat my pool. I was informed that my roof was too "soft" to contain the weight of the installers without bending and voiding my warranty, but also it would not bear the weight of the water cycling through the panels. Until now I thought the "metal" in metal roofs had no restrictions such as this. When should I have learned about "soft" metal roofs and "hard" metal roofs? What other facts are pertinent to learn about "soft" metal roofs?

This is unusual. Solar panels are installed on metal roofs on a regular basis. Can you tell me more about your roof and who told you this perhaps? Todd Miller

+1 Why type of structure does the roof have. Even a roof on a set of purlins could accommodate solar if it were placed across the structure. Walking is tough but doable. Eric Novotny
