Converted Barn typical Gambrel roof. Existing 30 yr.old asphalt shingles(shot). Sheathing is old barn boards, metal shingles, treated 1/2"fiber board. I would like to cross fur over existing shingles then apply a metal roof. Need your opinion. Thank you.

As long as you choose a metal panel that can be installed over battens, this is acceptable. You may wish to consider cross battens -- vertical battens first as sleepers following the rafters followed by horizontal battens. This would allow you to ventilate underneath the new roof. This should help with energy efficiency and also with control of moisture that may originate inside the building.
