aluminum roofing over 2 layers of shingle?

can an aluminum roof be put over two layers of shingles? fyi, some of the singles have lifted. if this can be done, how?

You will need to apply some sort of slip layer so that the shingle is not in direct contact with the asphalt shingle. This is to eliminate any reactivity between the shingles and the aluminum roof. Synthetic underlayment will suffice. While I know it is commonplace to put metal roofs over asphalt, I tend to recommend that customers remove that thermal mass, properly inspect the plywood sheathing, and get the weight and thermal mass off of your roof. If you are in the Southwest, your energy bills and attic temperatures will appreciate it. Eric Novotny
