Where can I get the foam closures? were they supposed to be installed when the roof was installed? I have ice dam and it is freezing into the grooves of the metal, and causing leaks, I also have a new gutter there with a gutter guard, installed this past fall, all freezing with the ice dam... it didn't leak last year, just tore the gutters down. what is the best solution? If I fill the grooves with spray foam will that work? Should the gutters be removed?

Ice dams have nothing to do with the roof itself but as a result of heat loss from the living space that gets up to the roof deck and melts the snow in below freezing conditions. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/grr/education/roofIceDams/roofice.png Fix the loss of heat and you will eliminate the ice dam.
