I have a large metal pole barn (70 ft long) with a gutter along the access side. It has become a maintenance problem as it is constantly filling with pine needles and debris and the water run off wouldn't be a problem if I remove it. The overhang appears to be rather short and I was wondering if there is anything I should install (flashing) to prevent water from rolling back on the drip edge? May not be a problem but I won't know until I remove it. The non gutter side hasn't had any problems.

Why not just put a self cleaning gutter cap on the roof? This one seems to work pretty well on the homes that we have used it on. http://www.leafsolution.com/ Eric Novotny

Pine needles and pine debris find a way to get into anything, and systems like leafsolution will clog on top and The gutter is 16ft. up so clean out/off is difficult and relatively dangerous. Just trying to cut down on the workload as I get older. Thanks for the thought.

The stainless wire mesh on the the Leaf solutions cap does not allow even the points of the needs to get lodged in the wire. We have used it with measured success in the most difficult areas with problematic gutter clogging issues. I think you would be well advised to at least look at a piece before you dismiss it.
